L-serine-phosphatidylethanolamine phosphatidyltransferase (EC 2.7.8.29) is a type of enzyme with systematic name L-1-phosphatidylethanolamine:L-serine phosphatidyltransferase. These enzymes catalyses the following chemical reaction
L-1-phosphatidylethanolamine + L-serine
⇌
{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons }
L-1-phosphatidylserine + ethanolamine
This catalyzses the replacement of a polar head group of phosphatidylethanolamine with L-serine.
In humans, the primary form of this enzyme is phosphatidylserine synthase 2 which is encoded by the gene PTDSS2. Its paralog, PTDSS1, has also been found to show some of this activity in vitro, but its primary function is instead to act on phosphatidylcholine.
